I really loved this book but I also had so many problems with it at the same time that I don’t even know where to begin. This story was so angsty that I had to stop reading more than once, and that never happens with me, I love angsty books and I love even more the ones that have a good love triangle in it. This is the first time that I read a love triangle where the one that I’m rooting for doesn’t get the girl, and let me tell you THAT SUCKS!
When Stevie was a young girl, she met Everett. The boy who just moved across the street and her bother’s new best friend. Everett is a troubled kid, with a fucked up family and a terrible past that he doesn’t know how to deal with and he doesn’t want to talk about it either. But he found a home in Stevie’s family, music and unfortunately alcohol.
“I just want you, my guitar, and some people to listen. That’s it.”
Stevie and Everett start having a secret “relationship” and everything was good until he decided to leave to pursue his career as a musician. But that’s the thing with Everett and that’s what he does best, he leaves Stevie behind every chance he gets. And when he’s on the road, alcohol and one night stands become part of his routine.
“You never said goodbye.”
“I’m tired of goodbyes, Ever.”
“I need all your goodbyes and every hello. Don’t fucking deprive me of you.”
After being broken for so long, Stevie goes to college where she meets Aiden, a baseball player, smooth talking and good friend who has all the patience in the world when it comes to her and what they could potentially have together.
“That boy looks like bad news. The kind that’ll trample all over you, then return to feast on your remains.”
But life couldn’t be that easy right? Everett is always leaving but he always finds his way back to her to make things more complicated, and even more now that Aiden is in the picture and definitely in Stevie’s heart.
Love is messy and love hurts, even more when you love two different men at the same time. This story is raw, painful, angsty and it will definitely destroy you. You’ll feel their heartbreak all the way through this book and you are going to hate it and love it from the beginning till the end.
“To fall in love twice was a beautiful rarity. To be in love with two men at the same time was a cruel twist of fate. Your soul was split right down the middle, a piece of you stolen forever.”
